6 Weeks

Today is day 45 in the NICU.  Sometimes it seems like these days have flown by and others feel like we have been at the hospital forever.  Yesterday morning whenI got to the hospital there was an alarm going off in one of the rooms in the NICU.  Unfortunately, the baby did not make it.  I say this as a reminder of how precious life is and to encourage you to pray for the 60+ babies in the NICU, their parents, doctors, and nurses.  So, if you think about it, please remember all these people in your prayers.

Our updates:  Anna Claire is now 4 lbs!!!!  She is taking four bottles a day with 45 mL in them.  She is a pro at this whole bottle thing (so far).  They will be doing an ultrasound on her tummy tomorrow.  When I had an ultrasound the week before they were born, the doctor noticed that her urethra went further up into her bladder than it should.  Although ultrasound technology when you are pregnant has greatly improved, it isn’t perfect.  The doctor’s concern is that she may not be able to completely empty her bladder.  We are praying that the problem has been fixed or that it isn’t even an issue.  Charlie is now 5 lbs!!!  He is exactly double his birth weight.  He is taking 3 bottles a day with 48 mL in them and doing pretty well.  He struggled in the beginning with the bottles, but we think he is starting to get the hang of it.  Dr. Marsh (Charlie’s doctor) and Dr. Camps (Charlie’s surgeon) talked this morning and they have tentatively scheduled his surgery for Monday.  They both worked with the physical therapist this morning and she said that they are doing very well.  They will probably have another eye exam this week.  Whew!  That’s a lot.  Here are a couple pictures:

  1. Yes, life is precious! I’m so very sad for the parents that lost their baby yesterday. It makes me look at Caroline and your twins and think- Lord you have blessed me (us) in so many ways. I have a friend that had her baby at 25 weeks (the link on my blog is Morgan Kate), and its just a miracle what God has done in that little life!
I’m praying for Charlie’s surgery as well!

    Continued Prayers,

  2. 4 and 5 pounds!! wow 🙂 Praying for the babies. Love you and can’t wait to see y’all Thursday!

  3. My granddaughter, Caroline, has had trouble with both her ureters. The went into the bladder at 90 degree angles. She has been on antibiotics for over a year now, but she has outgrown some of the problem. One ureter is correct and the other has gone from grade 4 to grade 2. Praying that it is something that she will just out grow, too!

  4. Yay for the weight gain! Sounds like they are beefing up!! :)! Reading this made me think of a little boy named Hayden. He was in the NICU with Thomas and passed away while T was there. Seeing all those babies makes you realize how special life is and what a blessing babies are. We will be praying for you guys and for good results on all the tests this week!
    Love ya!

  5. I hope that everything goes well with Anna Claire’s ultrasound, and that Charlie will be ready for his surgery next week. I will definitely be praying! 🙂 Life is so precious, and God definitely chose two amazing parents to raise two amazing children! 🙂 We love you!
