Charlie has an appointment with the cardiologist tomorrow.  To be completely honest, I don’t know a whole lot about this…mainly because the doctors in the NICU didn’t stress about it.  However, I talked to the cardiologist yesterday to confirm his appointment and to find out actually what they are looking for.  When babies are born, there is a hole between the pulmonary artery and the aorta.  It usually closes within a few days to a couple weeks.  Anna Claire’s did just that.  Charlie’s didn’t.  Most parents don’t know if their child’s closes or not, unless a pediatrician hears a heart murmur.  The only reason we know is because AC and Charlie had several echocardiograms.  Anyway, they did an echo on Charlie the day before we left the hospital (10 weeks after he was born).  The hole was smaller but still there.  They obviously weren’t too concerned since they let us go home.  Well, we go back tomorrow and are praying it is completely closed.  We’ll update tomorrow.

  1. We’ll be praying also 🙂

  2. We will be praying too!! I hope that the babies are feeling much better!! 🙂

  3. I’m sure Charlie will be just fine, but I’ll pray anyway! They didn’t stress because Charlie wasn’t (and still isn’t showing any signs of his PDA being a problem. He’s definitely eating well and gaining weight just fine. His breathing doesn’t seem to be a problem either. The open PDA probably had a lot to do with him requiring more extra oxygen than Anna Claire…so it wasn’t totally just because he was a wimpy white boy. Call me and let me know what the cardiologist says!
