No More IV!

Today is a big day.  Charlie and Anna Claire are going to have their PICC lines removed.  This is a peripherally inserted central catheter.  They have had them in their little arms for 21 days now.  Anna Claire is doing well – still breathing room air on her own, eating well, etc.  Charlie is now off of his nasal cannula and breathing room air on his own.  He is eating well also.  However, yesterday was kind of a rough day for Charlie.  He was crying and just seemed miserable (very uncommon for him).  His nurse discovered something when she was changing his diaper.  After an xray and ultrasound, the doctors concluded he has an inguinal hernia (in the groin area).  A part of his intestines had pushed through it which was very painful for him.  The doctor at first could not push it back in.  They called the surgeon to look at it and he finally pushed it back in.  The good thing about this is that they didn’t have to do immediate surgery.  The unfortunate thing is that before Charlie comes home, he is going to have to have surgery to repair it.  Please pray that the intestines won’t keep pushing through the hernia and that Charlie won’t be in pain.  It is so hard to see your child hurt and not be able to do anything about it!  Other than that, they are both absolutely wonderful and such a joy!  Here are a few pictures.  The first two are our sweet Charlie (before the nasal cannula came out and then after).  The second two are Anna Claire just being cute!2009_0401twins02402009_0401twins02452009_0401twins02372009_0401twins0244
